Harajuku Tokyo Café and Bakehouse is expanding its casual dining presence across India. After establishing an initial footprint in Delhi and Mumbai, the brand is now scaling its operations with the launch of several new outlets.
As per the brand, this expansion strategy includes the launch of a specialised Bakehouse in Delhi and a large, flagship Tokyo Café and Bakehouse in Mumbai. Furthermore,The brand will also make its debut in southern India with a new outlet in Bengaluru, along with the launch of its first fully vegetarian outlet tailored for the Gujarat market.
The expansion is being led by founder Gaurav Kanwar, who observed that Japanese cuisine in India is largely limited to high end restaurants in luxury hotels. After conducting research trips to Tokyo and Osaka, he developed a more accessible, experience-led restaurant model that focuses on a welcoming and casual dining atmosphere rather than formal dining conventions.
According to the brand, its cafés are designed as high energy dining spaces with playful, manga inspired interiors. Each location draws design inspiration from a different Japanese district, translating its visual style into the restaurant space. The Mumbai outlet is inspired by the vibrant energy of Shibuya, while the Gurugram outlet at M3M IFC reflects the neon lit nightlife of Kabukicho. The outlet at Ambience Mall draws its design cues from the cultural charm of Ueno.
The brand stated that the culinary programme is developed and led by Japanese master chefs. The menu includes several established favourites such as jiggly pancakes, Japanese cotton cheesecake, a kaiten conveyor belt system for serving sushi, and a selection of inventive beverages.
The recent launches in Bengaluru and Gujarat further mark the beginning of a broader expansion strategy, with plans to gradually introduce the Harajuku experience to more key cities across India in the coming months.
Gaurav Kanwar, Founder, said. “There’s something incredibly special about watching people truly connect with what you’ve built, the response we received in Delhi was overwhelming, and Mumbai took that love to another level. It reassured us that this vision resonates. As we now expand into Bangalore and other cities, it feels like the right time to share this experience with an even wider audience, while staying true to the care, energy, and authenticity that define us.”
