OpenAI has brought back three familiar faces for its latest advertising film for ChatGPT Voice, using everyday situations to demonstrate how the AI assistant can move beyond answering questions to helping users get things done.
The two-minute film stars actors SJ Mendelson, Lavelle Roby and Constance Brenner as three grandmothers who use ChatGPT Voice while going about their daily activities, including gardening, pottery and driving. The campaign follows their earlier appearance in OpenAI’s July film introducing GPT-Live.
The new film opens with Mendelson introducing the updated ChatGPT Voice and highlighting a shift from simply asking an AI questions to using it as a tool for completing everyday tasks.
The demonstrations are deliberately grounded in familiar activities. One of the women uses ChatGPT while baking, while another asks it to help with gardening. The film also shows the assistant being used for more functional tasks, including checking a bank account for duplicate charges and cancelling one of them.
Elsewhere, the grandmothers use ChatGPT to build an e-commerce website and book a sailboat, showing how voice interaction can be connected to tasks that require more than a simple conversational response.
The creative approach keeps the technology largely in the background. Instead of explaining the underlying AI technology, the film focuses on what the user can accomplish with it.
The casting continues a creative route OpenAI explored earlier this year when the same three actors appeared in a nearly four-minute film introducing GPT-Live.
That earlier campaign demonstrated ChatGPT Voice through activities such as planning a trip to Santorini, fact-checking information and translating a conversation in real time. OpenAI’s choice of grandmothers was intended to make the technology feel familiar and approachable while also putting its conversational capabilities through a natural test of interruptions, pauses and follow-up questions.
The latest film takes that idea a step further. While the earlier campaign was largely about how naturally ChatGPT Voice could converse, the new spot puts greater emphasis on what the assistant can actually help users accomplish.
The advertising comes as OpenAI expands the capabilities of ChatGPT Voice. Its GPT-Live models were introduced in July as a new generation of voice models designed for more natural, real-time conversations.
Unlike earlier voice systems that relied on turn-by-turn interaction, GPT-Live uses a full-duplex architecture, allowing it to listen and speak simultaneously. OpenAI says this enables the model to handle interruptions, pauses and more natural back-and-forth conversations.
The latest advertising film therefore moves the product story from “talk to AI” to “use AI to get something done” with three grandmothers demonstrating that shift through mundane, recognisable tasks rather than futuristic scenarios.
