The IndianOil One app has climbed to the #1 position on both the Google Play Store and Apple App Store in India. In a rare surge for a utility platform, it has overtaken globally popular apps such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT to become the most downloaded free app in the country, driven by rising demand for LPG and fuel related services.
The spike in usage reflects a broader shift in consumer behaviour, as households increasingly turn to digital platforms for essential services. The surge in downloads comes amid a sharp rise in LPG demand, pushing more users to rely on the app for bookings and service access.
According to government data shared by Petroleum Ministry Joint Secretary, Sujata Sharma, average household LPG bookings increased from 55.7 lakh cylinders to 75.7 lakh on March 12, marking a jump of over 35%. The sudden surge in demand has also strained digital systems, with some local platforms facing temporary disruptions, particularly in Punjab where bookings rose nearly 40% above normal levels.
The impact of this heightened demand is being felt across urban centers, where distribution points have seen extended queues and commercial establishments have had to adjust their operations or menus due to supply tightening.
IndianOil One has emerged as a key platform for consumers navigating the surge in LPG demand, offering services such as cylinder bookings, delivery tracking, and new connection applications. The app has become a central touchpoint for managing essential fuel needs during this period.
According to SensorTower, the app has recorded over four million downloads in the past 30 days, significantly outperforming other utility apps like IndianOil PNG. With 33.4 crore households dependent on LPG compared to just 1.5 crore using piped natural gas, its role has become critical for a large section of the population.
