Snapchat is doubling down on artificial intelligence and immersive advertising with the launch of AI Clips in Lens Studio and a new suite of ad tools signalling a broader shift in how content, creators, and brands interact on the platform.
At the centre of this push is AI Clips, a new feature that allows users to turn a single photo into a short, five-second AI-generated video directly within Snapchat. Built into Lens Studio, the tool enables developers to create AI-powered experiences that users can access with a simple tap removing the need for prompts or editing skills.
Unlike traditional AI video tools that rely on open-ended prompts, Snapchat’s approach is structured. Developers define the creative direction, while users simply upload an image and watch it transform into cinematic, shareable content ranging from red carpet moments to surreal visual stories.
The move marks a significant evolution for Snapchat, which has long been a pioneer in augmented reality (AR) lenses. What began as playful filters has now transitioned into AI-powered storytelling tools designed for scale, speed, and mass engagement.
With AI Clips, Snapchat is not trying to compete with complex, studio-grade AI video platforms. Instead, it is focusing on simplicity and instant creativity, making AI video generation accessible to everyday users.
The feature also opens new monetisation avenues. Developers can build and publish AI-powered lenses and earn through Snapchat’s Lens+ subscription ecosystem, turning creative ideas into revenue-generating experiences.
