Amazon is significantly ramping up its quick commerce ambitions in India, announcing plans to expand its ultra-fast delivery service, Amazon Now, to 100 cities across the country. The move marks one of the company’s most aggressive bets yet on the fast-growing instant delivery segment, as it looks to compete more directly with established players like Blinkit, Zepto and Swiggy Instamart.

To support this expansion, the company will scale its logistics backbone to over 1,000 micro-fulfilment centres, enabling faster last-mile deliveries across both metro and non-metro markets.

Currently operational in cities such as Delhi-NCR, Mumbai and Bengaluru, Amazon Now will now be rolled out to a wider set of locations including Pune, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata, Jaipur, Lucknow and Ahmedabad, among others.

The service is designed to deliver a curated range of daily essentials within minutes, spanning groceries, personal care, beauty products, small appliances, and more.

This expansion signals Amazon’s push into tier-1 and tier-2 cities, where quick commerce adoption is still evolving but presents a large untapped opportunity. The expansion is part of Amazon India’s broader investment of over ₹2,800 crore aimed at strengthening its operations network, logistics capabilities and workforce support systems.

Amazon said the expansion will also enable more than 16,000 farmers to directly supply fresh produce through its platform, integrating local supply chains into its quick commerce network.

The company is also leveraging advanced inventory systems and demand forecasting to optimize product availability at a hyperlocal level critical for maintaining speed in quick commerce operations.

“Customers continue to enjoy Amazon Now, appreciating our delivery speed, value and selection, especially the quality of fresh produce sourced directly from farmers. Encouraged by this success, we have further accelerated our expansion plans and will scale Amazon Now to 100 cities, fuelled by a network of more than 1,000 micro-fulfilment centres,” says Harsh Goyal, Vice President – Everyday Essentials, Amazon India.

“This expansion will also help more than 16,000 farmers to leverage our technology & operations to take their produce directly to customers through sellers on Amazon Now. Customers continue to get the convenience of our fastest delivery speeds on the largest selection offered by our sellers thousands of daily essentials including perishables in minutes, over a million items on the same day, and another 4 million the next day on Amazon.in,” he adds.
