Amazon, Eternal, Swiggy, Zepto and Meesho have come together to launch the Digital Commerce Coalition (DCC), a new industry-led body aimed at shaping the future of India’s digital commerce ecosystem. The move marks one of the most significant examples of collaboration among major ecommerce and quick-commerce companies in recent years.
Why India’s Biggest Ecommerce Rivals Are Teaming Up
The Digital Commerce Coalition has been created as a platform for digital-first commerce companies to work together on industry-wide challenges rather than compete on them individually.
According to the coalition, its focus areas will include:
- Improving customer experiences
- Expanding opportunities for entrepreneurs and small businesses
- Strengthening supply chains
- Supporting delivery partners
- Promoting responsible industry growth
- Driving broader economic development through digital commerce
The coalition will also function as a forum for stakeholder engagement, industry research, thought leadership and knowledge sharing. New Delhi-based public policy consultancy Koan Advisory Group will serve as its secretariat.
According to the report, Eternal noted that the coalition creates a strong case for cooperation across the sector, while Zepto emphasised that no single company can solve key industry priorities alone. Meesho pointed to the opportunity to shape inclusive growth as ecommerce adoption deepens across Bharat.
The Digital Commerce Coalition could play a similar role for ecommerce and quick commerce companies as policy discussions around data, competition, sustainability, logistics and consumer protection continue to evolve.
The timing is notable because India’s digital commerce ecosystem is expanding beyond metros, bringing millions of new consumers, sellers and entrepreneurs online every year.
