District by Zomato has launched a new feature called ‘Splitpay’ to simplify bill payments during group dining. Available in the District app, the feature allows diners to split a restaurant bill and pay their share directly through the platform, eliminating the need for post-meal transfers or payment reminders.
Users can enter the total bill amount, select the number of people sharing the expense, and split the payment equally or customize each person’s contribution. The payment process takes place within the app, eliminating the need to exchange bank details or manually calculate individual shares.
The feature also offers cashback on each participant’s payment, allowing every diner to receive rewards on their portion of the bill rather than limiting benefits to a single payer.
To promote the launch, District has released a campaign film featuring veteran actors Boman Irani and Anupam Kher. The film portrays a familiar dining situation in which two friends argue over who should pay the restaurant bill. The situation escalates into a comic struggle before highlighting Splitpay as an alternative that allows everyone at the table to pay their share directly through the app.

Commenting on the launch, Rahul Ganjoo, CEO, District by Zomato, said, “A meal out belongs to the whole table, but it has always ended with the least social moment: one person paying and everyone else doing maths. It’s something we noticed at restaurant tables, on social media, and in conversations with our users, so we built Splitpay to fix it. It’s one more step in the same direction we’ve been moving all along: taking the effort out of every stage of going out, so the only thing people take home is the experience itself.”
