Nestlé India shares fell more than 3% on June 12 after reports emerged that the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) had issued a notice to the company over the alleged detection of insect larvae in a packet of Maggi noodles. According to reports, the notice follows a consumer complaint and seeks clarification from the company regarding the incident.
According to an ANI report, Nestlé India clarified that the complaint relates to a single pack of Maggi noodles and that the company has responded to the regulator’s queries. The FMCG giant also reiterated that Maggi products undergo stringent quality checks and comply with food safety regulations.
In its response, Nestlé India reportedly stated that the alleged issue appears to be an isolated incident and does not indicate any broader quality concerns with its products. The company emphasized that Maggi noodles are manufactured under strict quality control processes and that consumer safety remains a top priority.
The development comes more than a decade after Maggi faced a major regulatory crisis in 2015, when the brand was temporarily withdrawn from the market over safety concerns before returning to shelves following regulatory clearances and court rulings.
Following reports of the FSSAI notice, Nestlé India’s stock came under pressure during trading, declining more than 3% intraday. Investors appeared cautious amid concerns that regulatory scrutiny involving one of the company’s flagship brands could impact sentiment.
The regulator is expected to review Nestlé India’s response before deciding on any further action. As of now, neither FSSAI nor Nestlé India has indicated any product recall or wider safety concern related to Maggi noodles.
