Google has rolled out a fresh set of updates to Ask Maps in India, introducing Hindi language support, real-time public transit information, and Personal Intelligence as it continues to expand the AI-powered capabilities of Google Maps. The latest additions are aimed at making trip planning, local discovery and navigation more conversational and context-aware.

Powered by Google’s Gemini models, Ask Maps was introduced earlier this year as the biggest overhaul to Google Maps in over a decade. The feature enables users to ask natural language questions such as finding a quiet café for a meeting, planning a family-friendly itinerary or discovering nearby attractions instead of relying on keyword-based searches.

With the latest update, Ask Maps can now understand and respond in Hindi, allowing users to discover places, plan routes and get local recommendations in their preferred language. Google said the rollout is starting in India and is designed to make Maps more accessible to a wider audience.

Google is also introducing Personal Intelligence, an opt-in feature that securely connects Ask Maps with Gmail, with support for Google Calendar expected soon. This allows the assistant to factor in information such as upcoming flights, hotel bookings or dinner reservations when offering recommendations. For instance, a traveller can ask for places to explore near their hotel before an upcoming flight without manually entering their itinerary.

Another key addition is real-time public transit information. Ask Maps can now provide live updates for buses, trains, metro services and ferries, including delays and disruptions, helping users make more informed travel decisions while on the move.

The update also expands Ask Maps’ conversational capabilities. Users can ask follow-up questions, refine recommendations naturally and receive more contextual suggestions based on previous queries. Google says these improvements are designed to make Maps feel more like an AI-powered travel companion than a traditional navigation app.
