Oracle May Cut Thousands Of Jobs In India As Company Pushes New Cost Cutting Drive

Oracle may be preparing for another round of layoffs that could affect thousands of employees in India. The potential workforce reduction is part of a broader cost cutting exercise across teams rather than a restructuring limited to a single business function.

According to Moneycontrol, The scale of the proposed layoffs has not been confirmed. However, internal estimates circulating among employees indicate that between 7,000 and 10,000 employees could be affected globally, while the number of employees potentially impacted in India remains unclear.

Employees have reportedly been told to expect possible action around the beginning or middle of September. September 1 had earlier been discussed as a possible date, while September 15 has emerged as another potential timeline, although Oracle has not publicly confirmed either date.

The potential layoffs follow a major workforce reduction already carried out by Oracle. The company disclosed that it had reduced its global workforce by 21,000 employees during the 12 months ending May 31, bringing its employee count down by 13% to approximately 141,000.

Oracle Layoffs Linked To Wider Budget Cuts Across Teams

The latest exercise appears to differ from a conventional restructuring focused on a specific business unit. According to people familiar with the matter, teams have been asked to reduce budgets, with workforce reductions potentially being used as part of the broader effort to lower costs.

The broad nature of the cost reduction has made it difficult for employees to determine which functions or roles could be affected. Managers are also reportedly not fully aware of the final list of employees who could be impacted or the exact timing of the cuts.

Oracle continues to invest heavily in cloud infrastructure and artificial intelligence while simultaneously working to manage expenses. Its India operations include large engineering, cloud, support and technology teams, making the country an important part of any company wide workforce restructuring.

The timing of the potential layoffs is also being closely watched ahead of Oracle’s quarterly results, which are scheduled for September 11. Oracle has not publicly announced the proposed layoffs and had not immediately responded to Moneycontrol’s request for comment.
