Indian consumers are becoming more conscious about what they eat, with protein, natural ingredients, and ingredient transparency emerging as key factors influencing snack purchases, according to Farmley’s Healthy Snacking Report 2026.

The report found that protein has moved beyond the fitness category, with 86% of respondents saying it is an important factor while choosing snacks. Around 32% also said they are willing to pay a premium for protein-rich products.

Ingredient quality is emerging as another key consideration. More than 61% of respondents said they prefer snacks sweetened with dates or jaggery over refined sugar, reflecting growing demand for natural ingredients and cleaner labels.

Consumers are also prioritising transparency over endorsements. According to the report, 62% said clear information about ingredients is the most important factor when choosing a snack brand, ahead of celebrity or influencer recommendations.

The findings point to growing interest in specialised nutrition as well. More than half of the women surveyed said they would be interested in snacks formulated to support nutritional needs during different phases of the menstrual cycle.

Among parents, nearly 60% said they are willing to spend more on healthier snack alternatives for their children, indicating increasing demand for premium nutrition-focused products.

The report also highlights changing purchase behaviour. Quick commerce platforms are becoming an important channel for snack purchases, with Blinkit preferred by 31% of respondents, followed by Zepto at 16% and Instamart at 15%.

Despite the rise of online shopping, physical stores continue to influence buying decisions. Around 35% of respondents said shelf visibility plays the biggest role in their purchase decisions. Packaging preferences are also evolving, with 30% favouring resealable packs for convenience and 25% preferring eco-friendly packaging.

Speaking on the findings, Akash Sharma, Co-Founder, Farmley, said: “The future of snacking in India is being shaped by consumers who are making far more intentional choices than ever before. They are seeking snacks that offer functionality, transparency and convenience, while also catering to the evolving taste profiles.”

He further added, “At Farmley, we believe this evolution presents an opportunity to create products that deliver both nourishment and indulgence, without compromise.”
