Tata Communications, a leading global digital ecosystem enabler and part of the Tata Group, has appointed Ganesh Lakshminarayanan as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer‑Designate, marking a significant leadership transition for the company.
Lakshminarayanan brings over 30 years of international management experience spanning multinational corporations, B2B start‑ups and Indian enterprises. Most recently he served as Managing Director and Group Vice President for ServiceNow India and SAARC, where he led efforts to drive market growth and strengthen the company’s footprint across the region.
Before his tenure at ServiceNow, Lakshminarayanan was CEO of Airtel Business in India and earlier headed Airtel’s Enterprise Business unit. Under his leadership, the enterprise segment received the Chairman’s Award for Best Business Unit in FY23, achieving 50 % growth over three years and increasing market share from 30 % to 33 %.
Strong academic credentials complement his extensive industry experience: Lakshminarayanan earned an MBA with high distinction from the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Engineering from Guindy Engineering College, Chennai, where he graduated as a gold medallist. He has also served twice on the NASSCOM executive council and on the FICCI council, and is a founding member of Social Venture Partners Bengaluru.
This leadership transition comes at a time when Tata Communications continues to expand its global digital services portfolio and build on recent operational and strategic initiatives.
In announcing the appointment, N. G. Subramaniam, Chairman of Tata Communications, said the selection followed a rigorous process led by the Nomination and Remuneration Committee, and that Lakshminarayanan’s expertise in global business strategy, digital transformation, automation, AI and enterprise relationships is expected to bolster the company’s strategic momentum.
