E-commerce major Flipkart has acquired a minority stake in Delhi-based B2B travel tech platform TravClan, as the company looks to strengthen its international travel business and expand holiday offerings across Cleartrip and Flipkart Travel.
The financial details of the transaction have not been disclosed. Flipkart said the investment will help strengthen international travel supply, destination-level support and the range of holiday packages available to its customers.
The partnership will give Flipkart access to TravClan’s technology, supplier network and destination operations. TravClan currently works with more than 15,000 travel agents, enabling them to customise and book real-time holiday packages, hotels and activities across domestic and international destinations. The platform also provides 24/7 on-ground customer support.
For Flipkart, the investment is aimed at going beyond conventional flight and hotel bookings and building more curated international travel experiences through its existing travel businesses.
The fresh capital will be used by TravClan to invest in global travel supply, technology and destination expansion. The company also plans to expand its teams across business development, engineering and destination operations.
Founded in 2018 by Arun Bagaria, Chirag Agrawal and Ashish Thapliyal, TravClan initially focused on helping travel agencies build and grow their online businesses. It has since developed into a B2B travel technology platform serving travel agents with access to holiday packages, hotels and activities.
TravClan co-founder and CEO Arun Bagaria said the opportunity is being driven by the growth of Indians travelling abroad, particularly first-time international travellers.
“India is becoming one of the largest outbound travel markets in the world, with travellers taking their first international trips driving a significant part of this growth. The opportunity lies in making these trips more affordable while maintaining reliable service levels,” Bagaria said.
He added that TravClan’s direct supplier relationships and ground teams allow it to offer competitive pricing while maintaining destination-level support.
With TravClan, however, the strategic focus is more directly tied to an existing consumer-facing business. By combining Flipkart’s customer reach and travel platforms with TravClan’s B2B travel network and destination capabilities, the partnership could allow Flipkart to build a broader international holiday proposition for Indian travellers.
