Social media influencer Apoorva Mukhija, popularly known as “The Rebel Kid,” has come under intense online scrutiny after a viral video showed her cutting a sacred kalava thread while getting ready for the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.

The controversy stems from a “Get Ready With Me” video shared on social media, where Mukhija is seen preparing for the festival. In one segment, she cuts off the red thread tied around her wrist, considered a symbol of faith and protection in Hindu rituals saying “mere aur mere aesthetic Coachella pictures ke beech mein agar koi aa sakta hai toh woh hu sirf main khud”.

The moment quickly triggered backlash online, with several users criticising the act as disrespectful. Comments ranged from disappointment to stronger reactions questioning the intent behind removing a religious symbol for aesthetic reasons. The video has since sparked a wider debate around the intersection of personal expression, religious sentiment, and influencer content.

Adding another layer to the controversy, sections of the internet have begun linking the incident to Mukhija’s personal life. Social media discussions have speculated about her relationship with a rumoured Muslim boyfriend, with some users attempting to connect the act to his religious background. However, there has been no official confirmation from Mukhija regarding these claims, and such associations remain speculative.

This is not the first time the Mukhija has faced online criticism. Mukhija has previously been involved in controversies ranging from content-related backlash to public disputes, keeping her frequently in the spotlight.
