OPPO India has partnered with Discovery to launch the ‘Filmmaker Accelerator Program’, a new initiative aimed at supporting emerging creators and mobile storytellers across India. Introduced under the newly launched OPPO LUMO Creator Program, the initiative focuses on helping young creators turn culturally rooted stories into cinematic short-form content using smartphones as their primary storytelling tools.
The program is part of the third edition of OPPO’s ‘Culture in a Shot’ initiative, which this year revolves around the theme ‘Meet Culture Anew, Make Your Moment’. Through the contest, creators from across the country are invited to produce short-form videos exploring how culture is experienced, expressed, and reimagined in everyday life. The company said the initiative reflects a shift in how younger audiences are engaging with culture today, not just preserving traditions, but actively reshaping and sharing them through digital storytelling formats.
Alongside the contest, OPPO India also introduced the OPPO LUMO Creator Program, a creator-focused platform designed to support micro and nano creators, especially in markets where smartphones have become the primary medium of creative expression. The company plans to roll out more creator-led initiatives and opportunities under the program in the future.
At the centre of the collaboration is the Filmmaker Accelerator Program, which will provide selected creators with mentorship from industry professionals across storytelling, filming, and post-production. Participants will also receive grants, access to OPPO smartphones, certificates, social media recognition, and opportunities for long-term collaboration with the brand. The initiative is powered by OPPO’s LUMO Image Engine imaging technology.
The launch reflects the growing focus among technology brands on creator-led ecosystems, mobile filmmaking, and short-form storytelling as content creation increasingly becomes smartphone-first. With creator culture continuing to expand across India, initiatives like the Filmmaker Accelerator Program are also positioning brands as enablers of creative communities rather than just technology providers.
Commenting on the launch, Goldee Patnaik, Head of Communications at OPPO India, said “At OPPO, we believe technology should empower people to tell stories that matter. As we enter our third year of collaboration with Discovery, our shared vision of celebrating authentic human stories continues to grow stronger. Through our newly introduced LUMO Creator Program, we are creating meaningful opportunities for young creators to showcase India’s cultural richness through cinematic storytelling. ‘Culture in a Shot’ reflects our belief that culture is living, evolving, and best expressed through real people and everyday moments. With the introduction of a dedicated video category this year, we aim to inspire a new generation of creators to tell powerful stories through short-form visual content and share them with the world.”
Vikram Channa, Vice President, Co-Lead, and Editorial Chief at Warner Bros. Discovery added “Discovery has always championed authentic stories that spark curiosity, inspire connection, and celebrate the diversity of human experiences. Our continued partnership with OPPO India reflects a shared commitment to nurturing emerging storytellers who can capture culture through fresh, meaningful perspectives. We look forward to strengthening this long-term collaboration, discovering new creative voices, and helping take their stories from India to audiences around the world.”
