Berger Paints has unveiled its latest brand campaign, ‘Rang Bana Rahe’, introducing an unlikely protagonist, a clown named Khushrangi. At first glance, the film appears to tell the story of a performer navigating the highs and lows of everyday life. But as the narrative unfolds, it becomes clear that the clown isn’t the message. He is the metaphor.

Throughout the film, Khushrangi walks through moments of uncertainty, adversity and change. Rain pours, dust settles, and life throws countless challenges his way. Yet, despite everything he endures, one thing remains constant his colours never fade.

It is this simple visual idea that Berger Paints builds its entire campaign around.

Rather than talking about paint through technical specifications or product demonstrations, the brand translates its long-standing promise of colour protection into a human story. Khushrangi’s unwavering colours become a symbol of resilience, suggesting that while life may change, the things that matter most deserve to remain vibrant.

With this campaign, Berger also departs from the celebrity-led advertising route that has become commonplace across categories. Instead of borrowing recognition from a familiar face, the brand invests in an ownable character, one that can consistently carry its story across campaigns while reinforcing its core proposition.

Conceptualised by Sideways Consulting, the campaign gives new meaning to Berger’s positioning. It shifts the conversation beyond painted walls and exterior finishes to the emotions colours represent in everyday life joy, hope, memories and identity. In doing so, the campaign makes the functional benefit of colour retention feel more personal and relatable.

The storytelling itself leans heavily on visual metaphor. There are no elaborate product explanations or exaggerated performance claims. Instead, the film trusts viewers to connect Khushrangi’s journey with Berger’s promise, allowing emotion to communicate what traditional advertising often explains through features.

The campaign also reflects a broader shift in brand building. As consumers grow increasingly accustomed to celebrity endorsements, brands are beginning to create distinctive assets of their own—characters, symbols and narratives that audiences can instantly associate with them. With Khushrangi, Berger Paints appears to be creating such an asset, one capable of carrying the brand’s promise long after the campaign ends.

At its heart, ‘Rang Bana Rahe’ isn’t a campaign about a clown. It’s about preserving colour, not just on walls, but as a metaphor for optimism, resilience and the moments people want to hold on to. By turning a functional product benefit into an emotional narrative, Berger Paints has chosen to make viewers remember a feeling before they remember a feature.
