AI coding platform Cursor has introduced its first country-specific subscription plan, choosing India as the launch market. Called Cursor Start, the plan costs Rs 649 per month (tax included) and is positioned between the company’s free offering and its global $20 Pro subscription.

The move reflects Cursor’s growing focus on India’s developer ecosystem, where the company says millions of users already rely on its AI-powered coding tools. The localized pricing also enables payments in Indian rupees through UPI and cards, making the service more accessible to developers who found the Pro plan expensive.

What’s Included in Cursor’s Rs 649 Start Plan

The Start plan bundles several of Cursor’s AI development tools, including access to Grok 4.5, Composer, always-on cloud agents, and the Cursor iOS app. User also get support for plugins, Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers, hooks and skills that extend the coding workflow.

According to the company, the plan is designed for developers who need more AI assistance than the free version offers without paying for the full Pro subscription. Cursor says the offering provides enough usage for everyday AI-assisted software development.

What You Won’t Get With the Start Plan

Despite offering a lower entry price, Cursor Start does not include access to AI models from OpenAI or Anthropic, which remain exclusive to higher-tier subscriptions. Advanced capabilities such as Bugbot and other premium features available under the Pro plans are also unavailable.

Cursor says India is the first market to receive a localised pricing model, making this launch a test of whether lower regional pricing can attract more developers to paid AI coding tools. The company has not announced whether similar plans will be introduced in other countries.
