Spotify Launches ‘User Notes’ Feature, Letting Listeners Attach Personal Memories To Songs
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Spotify has introduced User Notes, a new feature that lets listeners attach personal notes and memories to individual songs, adding a more personal layer to the music streaming experience. The update is designed to help users remember the stories behind the music they love, whether it’s the place they first heard a track, a memorable trip or a special occasion associated with it.

The feature allows users to write short, private notes that are linked to specific songs. For instance, users can note that they first heard a track while travelling, at a concert, on a first date or during a significant life moment. The notes remain visible only to the account holder, turning Spotify into a personal musical journal rather than a social feature.

Spotify says the update is intended to strengthen the emotional connection listeners have with music by preserving the memories that often accompany favourite songs. Instead of simply saving tracks to playlists, users can now capture the context behind why those songs matter to them.

The feature can be accessed through the three-dot menu next to a song, where users will find the option to add or edit a note. Once saved, the annotation remains attached to the track, allowing listeners to revisit those memories whenever they return to the song.

User Notes is rolling out to Spotify users aged 16 and above across both Free and Premium plans in select markets. The company said the feature is part of its broader effort to make music listening more personal by combining streaming with contextual memories.

The launch reflects Spotify’s continued focus on enhancing user engagement through features that go beyond music playback. In recent years, the platform has introduced personalised experiences such as Spotify Wrapped, AI-powered playlists and collaborative listening tools. With User Notes, Spotify is now encouraging listeners to preserve the personal stories that make songs meaningful, reinforcing music’s role as both entertainment and memory.
