Global investment firm KKR is set to acquire a minority stake of around 6% in BookMyShow, the entertainment and ticketing platform operated by Big Tree Entertainment. The investment is reportedly valued at around $40 million to $50 million, putting BookMyShow’s implied valuation in the range of $667 million to $833 million.

The transaction comes as India’s live entertainment market continues to expand, with BookMyShow increasingly moving beyond movie ticketing into concerts, music festivals, comedy shows and other live experiences. The company has also been involved in ticketing for major international artists, including Coldplay, Ed Sheeran and Travis Scott.

BookMyShow Expands Beyond Movie Ticketing

BookMyShow has built its business around online entertainment ticketing, but live events have become a larger part of its operations. In FY25, revenue from its live events business rose to Rs 756 crore from Rs 455 crore a year earlier, while its online ticketing revenue increased to Rs 828 crore from Rs 741 crore.

The shift has also contributed to stronger financial performance. Big Tree Entertainment reported a consolidated net profit of Rs 192 crore in FY25, compared with Rs 109 crore in the previous year, as the company scaled up its live events portfolio alongside its core ticketing business.

KKR Investment Comes Amid Rising Competition

KKR’s investment also comes as competition in India’s entertainment and ticketing market is increasing. Flipkart is preparing to enter the ticketing space, while Eternal’s District platform has been expanding its presence in going out and entertainment categories.

BookMyShow is operated by Big Tree Entertainment, with Network18 among its major shareholders. The company has previously raised capital from investors including Accel, Elevation Capital, Stripes Group and TPG Growth, with its last major funding round taking place in 2018.
