Instamart Brings Back Bollywood’s ‘Dhaai Kilo’ With Esha Deol For A Rakhi

Instamart Brings Back Bollywood’s ‘Dhaai Kilo’ With Esha Deol For A Rakhi

There are some Bollywood dialogues that don’t really need an introduction. They have lived long enough in popular culture to become shorthand for an entire emotion. Swiggy Instamart is now giving one such reference a festive makeover with ‘Dhaai Kilo Ki Rakhi’, bringing actor Esha Deol into the campaign to turn a familiar cinematic moment into a playful Raksha Bandhan story.

The campaign takes the larger-than-life idea behind Bollywood’s iconic “dhaai kilo” reference and applies it, quite literally, to a Rakhi. What follows is an absurd, deliberately over-the-top scientific investigation into why Esha’s brother appears to have an unusually heavy arm.

The film opens with Esha Deol invoking the familiar dialogue, immediately establishing the Bollywood connection. But instead of simply recreating the original moment, Instamart builds an entirely new comic world around it.

A wild-haired professor steps in to investigate the mysterious weight of Esha’s brother’s arm. His explanation? A fictional scientific concept called “Thermo-Dhaai-Namics.”

From there, the film leans into the absurdity. X-rays, equations and classroom experiments become tools to determine exactly why the arm is so heavy. The professor even brings in references to the Earth, Venus, Saturn and a tank of water as part of his increasingly elaborate calculations.

The joke keeps escalating because the film treats the ridiculous premise with complete seriousness.

And eventually, the answer arrives not through science, but through quick commerce.

Just when the professor’s equation seems impossible to balance, an Instamart delivery executive walks in carrying the answer: a ‘Dhaai Kilo Ki Rakhi’.

The reveal brings the entire film together. The unusually heavy arm suddenly makes sense because, apparently, the Rakhi itself weighs 2.5 kilos.

It is a simple gag, but the campaign stretches it through increasingly exaggerated visual and scientific references, giving the film the kind of absurdity that makes a familiar cultural reference feel fresh rather than simply recycled.

The presence of Esha Deol adds another layer to the idea. Rather than borrowing the reference from a distance, the campaign brings someone from the Deol family into the story, making the Bollywood nostalgia feel more directly connected to the film’s central joke.

Instamart has also partnered with Kalyan Jewellers to add a gifting proposition to the festive purchase. Customers buying eligible Rakhis on Instamart can receive a complimentary 10-gram silver voucher, redeemable at select Kalyan Jewellers stores, subject to availability and applicable terms.

This gives the campaign a functional layer alongside its entertainment value. The Rakhi is the emotional symbol of the occasion, while the silver voucher plays into the familiar tradition of the brother’s return gift.
