Meta has announced the launch of the ‘Edits Film Festival’, a new initiative that aims to showcase emerging creator talent in India through short cinematic Reels created using its Edits video editing app.
The festival invites creators to transform everyday and unpolished footage into visually engaging short films using features available on Edits. These can include filters, effects, fonts, audio effects, overlays and music.
Creators will have 45 days, from August 24 to October 8, to submit original Reels made entirely on Edits. To participate, creators need to publish their Reel, explain the Edits features used in the caption, include the hashtag #EditsFilmFestival and tag @metaindia and @weareyuvaa.
A jury comprising actor Ahsaas Channa, content creator Dolly Singh, Yuvaa founder Nikhil Taneja and film critic Rajeev Masand will evaluate the submissions. Entries will be assessed on the uniqueness of the story, how effectively creators transform ordinary footage and the creative use of Edits features.
The top 10 to 20 Reels will be screened at an exclusive Edits Film Festival organised by Meta. Selected creators will also be recognised by the jury and have their work showcased on Meta India’s social media channels. Some participants will also receive early access to upcoming Edits features.
Through the Edits Film Festival, Meta is positioning its standalone video creation app as a creative tool for creators while creating a platform to discover and spotlight new filmmaking and editing talent in India.
Ankit Rihal, Head of Global Partnerships, Meta, India, said, “India’s creator community is redefining storytelling every day, and the Edits Film Festival is our way of celebrating that spirit. We want to empower creators to see the cinematic potential in their everyday moments and use Edits as their creative studio to bring those stories to life. This festival is a stage for fresh voices and bold ideas all made on Edits.”
Nikhil Taneja, Founder of Yuvaa, said, “There’s always something new trending on Instagram, and more often than not, it’s a Gen Z creator or editor behind it. We’re constantly inspired by their creativity and honest storytelling, so I’m glad to be a juror for the Edits Film Festival and help more of this talent get discovered.”
