Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent call to reduce imports and fuel consumption, Shaadi.com has introduced one remote work day every week for employees to reduce office commute related fuel usage. The initiative was announced by Founder and CEO Anupam Mittal through a LinkedIn post.
According to Mittal, the move could reduce nearly 20% of commute fuel consumption for the company’s workforce. Shaadi.com estimates the initiative may help save around 30,000 litres of petrol annually by cutting nearly six lakh kilometres of employee travel.
Mittal said the decision reflects how smaller operational changes can contribute towards broader national objectives around fuel conservation. He added that such measures do not necessarily require large scale sacrifices and can begin with practical workplace changes.
The weekly work from home policy applies across teams at Shaadi.com. The company said the initiative has also received a positive response internally from employees. The development comes as companies continue evaluating hybrid and remote work structures based on factors including operational efficiency, employee flexibility and sustainability related goals.
