Apple Pay Arrives In India, Zomato, District & Blinkit Bring The Brand Banter

As Apple Pay launches in India, Zomato, District and Blinkit are using the payment service’s arrival for a little cross-brand banter.

Apple Pay Arrives In India, Zomato, District & Blinkit Bring The Brand Banter

Apple Pay has officially entered India, and the brands under Eternal are wasting little time finding their own ways to react. Zomato, District and Blinkit have joined the conversation with posts that keep the focus on Apple Pay while adding their familiar brand personalities to the moment.

Zomato kicked things off with an extremely simple post: “hello, Apple Pay”. The two-word message appeared on the brand’s LinkedIn page following Apple Pay’s India launch.

But the conversation did not stop there. Blinkit brings the actual apples into it, Blinkit responded to Zomato’s post with a line that takes the Apple Pay name quite literally:

“Now pay for your Apple products and apples with Apple Pay”

The comment turns the technology launch into a quick-commerce joke, playing on Blinkit’s ability to deliver both Apple devices and the fruit that shares the same name. The comment itself has drawn more reactions than Zomato’s original post, adding another layer to the exchange.

It is a particularly Blinkit-style response: rather than explaining the new payment service, the brand finds a way to connect it to the two very different kinds of “Apple” that can show up on its platform.

District has also posted around the Apple Pay launch, extending the wider Eternal brand conversation around the new payment option.

The timing is notable because Apple has listed Zomato and other Eternal businesses, including Blinkit, among the merchants and apps supporting Apple Pay at launch in India. Apple says the service is available across millions of merchants and apps, with more expected to be added over time.

That gives the posts a functional connection beyond moment marketing: Apple Pay is actually being introduced as a payment option across the ecosystem, rather than the brands simply reacting to an unrelated technology launch.

Apple launched Apple Pay in India on September 30, initially with Axis Bank-issued Visa and Mastercard credit cards. Users can make payments through compatible iPhones, iPads and Apple Watches, with Mac support coming soon.

At checkout, Apple Pay allows users to authenticate through Face ID, Touch ID or a device passcode, without entering a card PIN or OTP. Apple also says actual card numbers are not stored on the device or its servers; instead, a unique Device Account Number is used for transactions.
