Used vehicle marketplace Cars24 has launched Cars24 Labs, a new initiative focused on building artificial intelligence products, supporting early-stage founders, and investing in AI startups. As part of the program, the company has committed $20 million (Rs 189.8 Cr) to back startups and teams developing AI technologies.
The announcement comes as Cars24 expands its artificial intelligence efforts ahead of a possible public listing. Through Cars24 Labs, the company is looking to deepen its work in AI-led product development and startup investments.
Cars24 Labs will function as the company’s dedicated build, partner, and investment arm. According to Cars24, the initiative aims to help founders access the capital, mentorship, infrastructure, and technology resources required to build AI-focused businesses.
Cars24 expands beyond automotive commerce with an AI initiative
The launch signals a broader strategic push beyond the company’s core used vehicle marketplace business. Through Cars24 Labs, the company plans to develop proprietary AI products, contribute to open-source projects, and explore new applications of artificial intelligence across industries.
Founder and CEO Vikram Chopra described the initiative as one of the company’s largest investments in a new technology area, highlighting AI’s growing role in product development, operations, and customer experiences.
Three focus areas for Cars24 Labs
Cars24 said the initiative will operate across three areas: building AI native products, partnering with frontier AI companies, and investing in promising startups. Through its investment program, the company intends to support founders working on category-defining AI businesses at an early stage.
The company has also announced partnerships with technology firms, including OpenAI, Amazon Web Services, and ElevenLabs. These partnerships are expected to provide startups associated with the program access to AI models, cloud infrastructure, and voice AI technologies.
Growing corporate interest in India’s AI startup ecosystem
The launch of Cars24 Labs adds to a growing number of corporate-backed initiatives targeting India’s artificial intelligence ecosystem. Companies across sectors have increasingly been investing in AI infrastructure, startup partnerships, and product development as businesses seek to integrate AI into their operations and customer offerings.
For Cars24, the initiative represents an effort to participate more directly in the development of AI technologies while creating a platform that supports founders in building new products and businesses around artificial intelligence.
