HCLTech has flagged claims by a hacker group alleging that employee data from the IT services company has been leaked. The company, however, said there is currently no evidence that its systems have been breached or compromised.

The development comes shortly after similar data exposure claims involving Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), which also said it found no credible evidence of a breach in its systems or customer environments.

HCLTech Says No Systems Have Been Compromised

Responding to the claims, HCLTech said its ongoing checks have not found evidence of a compromise within its systems. The company is continuing to investigate the matter and monitor its technology infrastructure.

HCLTech also indicated that the data being claimed as exposed may be limited in scope and could be several years old. This raises the possibility that the information may not have originated from a recent breach of the company’s current systems.

The company has not confirmed the authenticity or full extent of the data allegedly circulated by the hackers. The investigation is still underway as HCLTech works to determine the source and nature of the information.

Hacker Claims Surface Amid Fresh IT Sector Data Leak Concerns

The HCLTech claims come as Indian IT companies face renewed scrutiny over alleged employee data exposures. TCS recently responded to threat-intelligence alerts concerning the possible exposure of employee information and said its investigation found no evidence of a security breach.

In HCLTech’s case, the company has maintained that no systems have been breached while it continues to assess the claims. Until the investigation establishes the source and authenticity of the alleged data, the claims do not amount to a confirmed HCLTech data breach.

The incident nevertheless highlights the challenge companies face in distinguishing between a genuine cyberattack and the circulation of old or externally sourced employee information. Further findings from HCLTech’s investigation are expected to clarify whether any employee data was actually exposed.
