Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India is set to create more than 3,800 new jobs as it ramps up its manufacturing footprint in the country. The company plans to increase its annual two-wheeler production capacity to 80 lakh units by 2028, reinforcing India’s growing importance in Honda’s global manufacturing network.
The expansion is aimed at meeting rising domestic demand while supporting exports to international markets. According to HMSI President and CEO Tsutsumu Otani, India has become a key production and export base for Honda, with vehicles manufactured here now reaching 65 countries, including Japan and several European markets.
Honda’s exports have also grown steadily over the past three financial years, increasing from 3.6 lakh units in FY24 to 5.1 lakh units in FY25 and 6.2 lakh units in FY26. The company said this reflects India’s expanding role in its global supply chain and export strategy.
Honda Expands Manufacturing Capacity Across India
The company currently operates four manufacturing plants in Haryana, Rajasthan, Karnataka and Gujarat with a combined annual production capacity of more than 60 lakh units. Honda is now investing in new production lines to support future growth.
A third production line at the Tapukara plant in Rajasthan, backed by an investment of around Rs 1,500 crore, is expected to begin operations in 2028. The new facility will add an annual capacity of 6.7 lakh units, taking the plant’s total output to over 20 lakh units.
In Gujarat, Honda is adding a fourth production line at its Vithalapur facility with an investment of Rs 920 crore. Scheduled to become operational in 2027, the expansion will increase the plant’s annual capacity to 26.1 lakh units, making it Honda’s largest motorcycle assembly plant globally. Together, these projects are expected to generate more than 3,800 employment opportunities.
Honda Says India Will Remain Central To Its Global Growth Strategy
Alongside manufacturing expansion, Honda said it will continue investing in India as both a domestic market and an export hub. The company expects the country to play an increasingly important role in supplying motorcycles and scooters to overseas markets while supporting long-term production growth.
Honda also reiterated that it will continue pursuing a multi-pathway mobility strategy in India. While electric mobility remains a long-term focus, the company plans to maintain investments across internal combustion engine vehicles, electric models, and alternative fuel technologies as market demand evolves.
