IndiGo is marking its 20th anniversary with a campaign that shifts the focus from the airline itself to the stories carried by its passengers, employees and journeys.

Titled ‘20 Years in 20 Frames’, the campaign looks back at two decades of IndiGo through a series of visual moments, bringing together key milestones from its evolution as an airline. The campaign’s central thought is that every journey carries a story and those stories have collectively shaped the airline over the past 20 years.

Rather than presenting the anniversary as a conventional corporate milestone, IndiGo uses its 20-year history as a timeline of change.

The campaign traces the airline’s growth from its early years to its current position as a major player in Indian aviation. It brings together moments including the introduction of international operations, fleet expansion, accessibility initiatives, long-haul growth and the development of newer customer offerings.

The storytelling is built around 20 frames, with each frame representing a different point in IndiGo’s journey. The approach allows the airline to connect business milestones with the broader changes in how Indians travel.

The campaign covers some of IndiGo’s defining moments.

In 2009, the airline became profitable within three years of operations and crossed 10 million customers. By 2011, it had expanded into international markets. In 2012, its fleet reached 50 aircraft, while 2013 saw the introduction of initiatives such as IndiGoReach and Braille menus and safety cards.

The scale-up continued through the following decade. In 2014, IndiGo marked the induction of its 100th Airbus A320 and had crossed 500 daily flights. In 2023, it flew more than 100 million customers in a year, crossed a fleet size of 300 aircraft and placed an order for 500 Airbus aircraft.

More recently, the airline has expanded beyond its traditional low-cost carrier proposition, introducing IndiGoStretch, its business-class offering, and IndiGo BluChip, its loyalty programme, in 2024.

The anniversary campaign also reflects how significantly IndiGo’s proposition has changed.

In 2025, the airline expanded its long-haul operations, resumed services to China, became the first airline to fly to Cambodia and crossed 123 million customers. In 2026, it inducted India’s first Airbus A321XLR, launched direct services to Athens and became the first airline to commence operations from Noida International Airport.

The airline has also crossed 14 million BluChip members, signalling the growing role of loyalty and customer experience alongside its original proposition of affordable, reliable air travel.

The campaign’s interesting shift is that the anniversary is not framed purely around how much IndiGo has grown, but around what that growth has enabled.

The idea of stories being carried inside bags gives the campaign a human entry point. A flight, after all, can mean a first job, a family reunion, a holiday, a move to another city or simply the beginning of something new.

With ‘20 Years in 20 Frames’, IndiGo turns that larger anniversary narrative into a visual retrospective using two decades of milestones to tell a bigger story about the journeys that happened along the way.
