Artificial intelligence startup Krutrim has reportedly laid off 20–25 employees, reducing its remaining workforce by nearly half in another round of restructuring. The latest job cuts come just months after the company scaled back its original ambitions to build a full-stack AI ecosystem, pivoting instead towards enterprise AI and cloud infrastructure.

According to The Economic Times, the layoffs primarily impacted product and engineering teams, while some departments have reportedly been reduced to a single employee. Employees were informed individually as part of what the company described as an organisational restructuring aimed at aligning resources with evolving business priorities.

Krutrim doubles down on enterprise AI after strategic pivot

The workforce reduction follows Krutrim’s broader strategic shift announced earlier this year, when the company moved away from developing indigenous large language models (LLMs) and semiconductor capabilities. Its focus has since shifted to AI cloud infrastructure and enterprise-focused services, with products such as Krutrim Cloud and Krutrim Maps becoming central to its business.

In response to media queries, a Krutrim spokesperson said the company continues to review its team structure as it scales operations and aligns with changing priorities, while declining to comment on the specifics of the reported layoffs.

Latest layoffs add to a year of restructuring

This is the second major restructuring exercise at Krutrim this year and adds to multiple rounds of workforce reductions over the past year. The company has also witnessed several senior-level exits across AI research, engineering, semiconductor and design teams as it reshapes its organisational structure.

Despite ongoing restructuring, Krutrim has maintained that its enterprise AI business is expanding and has recorded strong revenue growth following its strategic pivot. However, the latest layoffs underscore the challenges AI startups continue to face while balancing ambitious technology investments with sustainable business execution.
