Meta has introduced Muse, a personal AI agent designed to move beyond answering prompts and instead take action on a user’s behalf.

According to Meta, Muse can help users manage tasks and projects, turn long-term goals into action plans and proactively suggest ideas based on what it knows about them. The company describes it as a personal AI agent built for broad consumer use, with the rollout beginning in the US.

Unlike conventional AI assistants that primarily respond to questions or generate content, Muse is designed to interact with the digital tools people already use. It can open a browser, fill out forms, send emails, book travel and negotiate on a user’s behalf.

Meta says Muse is designed around the way people already communicate. Users can interact with it through the dedicated Muse app or directly through WhatsApp.

The agent is powered by Muse Spark, which Meta calls its most capable model to date and says has been built for real-world agentic tasks.

Users can give Muse a specific task or a broader goal. The system can then create a personalised plan, coordinate time and resources and continue progressing the work.

Importantly, Muse can keep working even after a user closes the app. It can return when something changes or when it needs the user’s approval for an action, such as sending an email or making a purchase.

Muse is rolling out in the US on iOS, Android and the web, with support for Meta’s AI glasses planned for the future. The basic service will be free for most users, while Meta says subscription plans will be available for people who want additional capabilities.

With Muse, Meta is positioning AI less as a chatbot users consult and more as a digital agent that can take responsibility for completing tasks. The company’s broader ambition is tied to what it calls personal superintelligence, with Muse serving as an early step towards AI systems that can take on more of the everyday work users currently do themselves.
