Ahead of India’s 80th Independence Day, redBus has launched ‘Freedom Bottle’, the first activation under its new Travel Equal initiative, which aims to spotlight everyday inequalities women experience while travelling.
The campaign focuses on a simple but often overlooked aspect of long-distance bus travel: women consciously limiting their water intake because they are unsure about access to restrooms during the journey.
Bringing together a documentary-style digital film and an on-ground activation, Freedom Bottle connects hydration with the availability of in-bus restroom facilities. The campaign aims to encourage women to stay hydrated while making more informed travel choices.
According to redBus’ India Bus Track 2026 Report, women account for more than 50 million intercity bus travellers, representing 34% of all travellers. The campaign highlights how a seemingly ordinary travel decision—whether to drink water during a journey—can be shaped by concerns around restroom availability.
The digital film features candid conversations with women travellers about their experiences on the road. The women speak about travelling independently and enjoying the freedom to explore, before being asked a more personal question: whether they freely drink water during bus journeys.
Their hesitation becomes the central moment of the film, with several women acknowledging that they deliberately reduce their water intake because they are uncertain about finding a restroom along the way.
The campaign uses this everyday compromise to shift the conversation from simply encouraging women to travel more to considering how comfortable and unrestricted that travel actually feels.
At the centre of the activation is the Freedom Bottle, a specially designed bottle featuring hydration markings and the message, ‘This bottle comes with restroom assurance’. The idea is to turn the bottle into a tangible reminder that access to basic facilities can play a role in making travel more comfortable.
From August 11 to August 17, 2026, redBus plans to distribute nearly 45,000 Freedom Bottles to women passengers travelling on buses equipped with in-bus toilets across Hyderabad.
The campaign also brings redBus’ existing ‘Booking for Women’ feature into focus. The feature enables users to filter for buses equipped with in-bus toilets while booking their journeys, making it easier for women to identify services that offer restroom facilities.
The initiative will additionally involve travel and health influencers to broaden the conversation around hydration, restroom access and women’s experiences while travelling.

Commenting on the campaign, Pallavi Chopra, Chief Marketing Officer, redBus, said, “For women, freedom in travel is shaped not only by where they can go, but also by the comfort and dignity they experience along the way. When something as basic as drinking water is influenced by uncertainty around restroom access, it reflects an everyday barrier that deserves attention. Travel Equal is our framework to address such inequalities, with Freedom Bottle as its first step. The bottle becomes a simple symbol of travel freedom, reminding women that staying hydrated should not have to be a compromise”
