Salesforce has reportedly laid off employees as the software giant accelerates its artificial intelligence strategy and expands investment in Agentforce, its AI-powered digital labour platform.

According to a report by Business Insider, the latest round of job cuts affected employees across various departments, including customer success and technical support teams. The layoffs come as Salesforce increasingly integrates AI agents into its operations and customer offerings, a shift that executives say is changing how work is performed across the company.

The report noted that impacted employees were informed of the decision this week, marking another workforce restructuring effort at the cloud software company as it prioritises AI-driven growth initiatives.

The reported layoffs arrive at a time when Salesforce is aggressively promoting Agentforce, its platform that allows businesses to deploy AI agents capable of handling tasks traditionally performed by human employees.

The company has positioned Agentforce as a key pillar of its future growth strategy, with CEO Marc Benioff repeatedly highlighting the transformative role AI agents could play in customer service, sales, and business operations.

According to Business Insider, Salesforce has simultaneously been hiring for AI-focused roles even as it reduces headcount in other areas, reflecting a broader shift in workforce priorities rather than a company-wide hiring freeze.

Reports indicate that employees impacted by the layoffs will receive severance packages that include a minimum of nearly five months of pay.

According to internal details cited by Business Insider and other reports, affected workers will receive approximately 17 weeks of base pay, along with an additional week of compensation for every completed year of service. Employees will also continue receiving certain benefits during the transition period.

The severance package is notably more generous than the minimum requirements in many markets and reflects Salesforce’s efforts to support employees affected by the restructuring.

For Salesforce, Agentforce has become central to its AI narrative. The platform enables businesses to deploy autonomous AI agents capable of answering customer queries, managing workflows, generating insights, and executing routine tasks with limited human intervention.
