Chennai-based SaaS startup SuperOps has laid off nearly 30% of its workforce, impacting around 60 employees, as part of a strategic restructuring aimed at transitioning into an AI-first organisation. The layoffs, largely concentrated in the engineering team, mark a significant shift in how the company plans to build and deliver its products in the coming years.

According to reports, the restructuring reflects a deliberate push toward automation-led development and AI-driven operations, with the company looking to streamline teams and accelerate innovation.

Founded in 2020 by industry veterans with experience at companies like Freshworks and Zoho, SuperOps operates as a cloud-based platform catering to managed service providers (MSPs) and internal IT teams. Over the past few years, the startup has positioned itself as an AI-native player, investing heavily in automation tools and intelligent workflows designed to simplify IT management.

The layoffs were primarily concentrated within the engineering division, which previously comprised nearly 100 employees. This indicates a structural reset, where fewer, more specialised teams are expected to build AI-integrated solutions more efficiently.

As part of this transition, the company has also reportedly set up an internal AI council to drive innovation and embed AI deeper into its product ecosystem. The goal is to move towards a model where automation reduces manual workloads, enabling faster product development cycles and improved scalability.
