Zomato Brings A Fake LinkedIn Post To Print With Its ‘PAYDAY PARTY’ Food Offer

Zomato’s latest print ad turns a LinkedIn-style payday post into a Times of India newspaper ad, pairing workplace humour with its Payday Party offer of a minimum Rs 150 off on food orders in a playful campaign.

Payday has officially entered the newspaper.

Zomato’s latest print ad takes one of LinkedIn’s most familiar sights an employee posting about surviving another month at work and drops it straight into a newspaper.

The ad recreates a LinkedIn-style post from a fictional profile, Yashi S., Jr. Program Manager at Fed.Up, with the caption: ‘celebrating one more month of doing lookup at work.’ Because apparently, making it through another month of spreadsheets deserves a celebration.

And the celebration comes in the form of a giant cupcake.

The illustrated post shows colleagues surrounding a person carrying an oversized cupcake, while the line underneath reads, “celebrating my salary.” The punchline then moves from LinkedIn to Zomato with a bright red strip announcing ‘PAYDAY PARTY’ and a minimum of Rs 150 off.

It is a fairly familiar payday ritual, just dressed up in the language of corporate social media.

The clever bit is that Zomato doesn’t need to explain what payday means. Anyone who has opened LinkedIn around the end of the month has probably seen some variation of it a new job update, a salary joke, a ‘grateful for the journey’ post or, in this case, someone celebrating the fact that the salary has finally landed.

The ad simply borrows that behaviour and puts it somewhere rather unexpected: the newspaper

The print execution is designed to look like a LinkedIn post sitting inside The Times of India, complete with a profile picture, name, job title, ‘Follow’ button and social-post formatting.

That visual choice does most of the work.

Instead of making another straightforward food-delivery ad around discounts, Zomato builds the creative around something people already recognise from their daily digital lives. The newspaper becomes the feed, and the payday post becomes the ad.

There is also a nice little joke in the fake profile itself. ‘Yashi S’ works at a company called Fed.Up, while her post talks about doing “lookup” at work. It is the kind of office-language humour that feels deliberately familiar rather than perfectly polished.

Then comes the salary. Once the ad establishes the payday mood, Zomato connects it to the most obvious payday indulgence: ordering food when you have just been paid.

The timing of the message is simple. Salary credited? Time to celebrate.

That is why the ‘Payday Party’ offer feels like part of the joke rather than a separate promotional message stuck underneath the creative. The ad starts with a workplace moment, turns it into a celebration and then gives that celebration somewhere to go: Zomato.

And that pretty much sums up the idea. Zomato has taken a piece of LinkedIn culture, given it a newspaper-sized canvas and attached a payday food offer to it.

For once, the post about getting paid has escaped the LinkedIn feed and ended up selling dinner.
