Truecaller announced Family Protection, a new feature that makes digital safety a shared experience for families. Built into the Truecaller app on Android and iOS, it lets users create trusted family groups for real-time protection against scams and unwanted calls. On Android, the Family Administrator can get alerts during potential scam calls and end those calls remotely.
Family Protection allows up to five people to join a group with shared tools for managing unwanted calls. The Family Admin can set protection levels, manage blocklists, and decide how calls should be handled. On Android, the Admin can also step in during suspicious calls using real-time support tools, aimed at helping protect less tech-savvy family members.
The feature gives the Admin a set of controls to monitor safety, update protection settings, manage blocklists, and provide remote support when needed. On Android, the Admin can receive scam-call alerts, remotely send suspicious calls to members, and view real-time signals like battery level and phone activity to understand when support is needed.
Family Protection is free but is designed to drive engagement and potential upgrades. Families seeking more protection can move to Truecaller Premium Family, which adds advanced spam blocking, automatic rejection of high-risk numbers, and an ad-free experience. This supports Truecaller’s goal of increasing subscription revenue and user retention.
The feature is rolling out first in Sweden, Chile, Malaysia, and Kenya, with India planned for Q1 2026. This phased rollout helps Truecaller study early usage before expanding to its largest market.
Family Protection represents a step toward Truecaller expanding beyond call identification into a broader communication safety ecosystem, aligned with its long-term vision of making communication smarter, safer, and more efficient.
“Truecaller is already being used by members of the family, and now we empower the ‘CTO’ of the family to protect the less tech savvy members, said Rishit Jhunjhunwala, CEO at Truecaller. As scam tactics evolve, we want Truecaller to be the platform families rely on for peace of mind and proactive protection.”
