Adani Defence & Aerospace has announced an investment of Rs 2,500 crore to establish what it describes as South Asia’s largest private-sector missile manufacturing ecosystem in Shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh. The project is expected to strengthen India’s indigenous defence manufacturing capabilities while supporting the country’s broader Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
The foundation stone for the facility was laid in the presence of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia. The project will create an integrated missile manufacturing hub capable of producing complete missile systems alongside critical inputs such as composite propellants and Trinitrotoluene (TNT) at a single location, a first for India’s private sector.
According to the company, the integrated ecosystem is designed to bridge long-standing gaps in India’s defence supply chain by bringing together raw material production, explosives manufacturing, system integration and final missile assembly under one roof. This is expected to accelerate the transition of indigenous missile technologies developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation from successful testing to large-scale production for the Indian Armed Forces.
The project is expected to generate around 5,000 direct and indirect skilled jobs while creating opportunities for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) that will become part of the defence manufacturing supply chain. The investment is also expected to reinforce Madhya Pradesh’s position as an emerging defence manufacturing hub.
Welcoming the investment, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav said the project would strengthen both industrial development and India’s indigenous defence ecosystem by attracting high-value investments to the state.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Jeet Adani, Director of Adani Defence & Aerospace, said the project represents a significant milestone for private participation in India’s defence manufacturing sector. “Shivpuri is the next giant leap in that journey as we bring a full-range, integrated missile ecosystem to manufacture medium- to long-range missile systems, replacing foreign dependency with domestic power. But we are going deeper than just assembly. We are establishing composite propellant manufacturing as well as TNT and explosive-grade material production.”
He further added: “Over the next three years, we will build this state-of-the-art facility with an investment of Rs 2,500 crore, creating 5,000 direct and indirect jobs and drawing over 50 MSMEs into a highly specialized supply chain.”
