Apple has announced an initial investment of Rs 100 crore to support the expansion of renewable energy infrastructure in India, marking a significant step in the company’s broader sustainability and carbon neutrality strategy.

The investment will be made in partnership with renewable energy developer CleanMax and is expected to help develop more than 150 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy capacity across the country. According to the company, the planned capacity could generate enough clean energy to power nearly 1.5 lakh Indian households annually.

The initiative is aimed at strengthening renewable energy adoption across Apple’s operations and supply chain ecosystem in India, while supporting the company’s global objective of achieving carbon neutrality across its entire footprint by 2030.

In addition to the renewable energy investment, Apple also announced support for six early-stage green startups in India through partnerships focused on sustainability, waste management, regenerative agriculture, circular economy solutions, and environmentally responsible livelihoods. Reports stated that the company is collaborating with Acumen to provide grants, mentorship, and strategic guidance to the startups.

Apple stated that the renewable energy partnership with CleanMax builds on previous collaborations between the two companies, including rooftop solar projects powering Apple’s offices and retail stores in India entirely through renewable energy.

The announcement also aligns with Apple’s broader environmental initiatives globally, which include increasing the use of recycled materials, reducing plastic waste, and scaling clean energy infrastructure across manufacturing and supply chain operations.
