Bajaj Auto has announced the appointment of Rakesh Sharma as its new Joint Managing Director, marking a key leadership elevation within the company’s top management structure.
The appointment, approved by the company’s board based on the recommendation of the Nomination and Remuneration Committee, will take effect from June 1, 2026. Sharma will continue in the role until March 31, 2029, subject to shareholder approval.
Currently serving as Executive Director, Sharma will continue reporting to Managing Director Rajiv Bajaj in his new role, maintaining continuity within the company’s leadership framework.
As part of his expanded responsibilities, Sharma will now oversee critical verticals including digital transformation, IT, and legal functions, in addition to his existing business responsibilities. The move reflects Bajaj Auto’s continued focus on strengthening its operational and technology-led functions as the company evolves its organisational structure.
The company stated that the re-designation is part of a broader leadership alignment exercise aimed at improving functional clarity and reinforcing strategic oversight across key areas of the business.
Sharma has been associated with Bajaj Auto since 2007, when he joined as President of International Business. Over the years, he has held several leadership roles within the organisation and has been a key part of its global and commercial expansion journey.
With this elevation, Bajaj Auto signals continuity in its leadership strategy while also expanding the responsibilities of long-serving executives to support its long-term growth and transformation agenda.
