Google has announced the launch of the new Google Health app, marking a major expansion of the company’s AI-driven healthcare ambitions. The new platform will replace the existing Fitbit app and bring together fitness tracking, wellness monitoring, sleep insights, and AI-powered health guidance into one unified ecosystem.

According to the company, the transition from Fitbit to Google Health will begin on May 19, with the redesigned app introducing a more comprehensive health experience powered by Gemini AI.

The platform will feature personalized wellness insights, workout recommendations, sleep analysis, and medical record summaries generated through Google’s AI capabilities. Users will also be able to connect health data from multiple apps and devices through integrations with platforms including Apple Health, Peloton, MyFitnessPal, and Health Connect.

Google said the app has been designed around four core sections — Today, Fitness, Sleep, and Health, allowing users to track and manage their overall wellbeing more efficiently.

A key feature of the rollout is the introduction of the Google Health Coach, an AI-powered assistant built using Gemini. The assistant can generate personalized fitness plans, provide wellness recommendations, and explain health trends based on user data and activity patterns.

The company is also expanding its wearable ecosystem with Fitbit Air, a lightweight health tracker designed to work alongside the new app experience. Users subscribing to Google Health Premium will gain access to advanced AI-powered coaching and deeper health insights.

The move reflects the growing focus among major technology companies on AI-led healthcare solutions. In recent years, firms across the tech industry have increasingly invested in digital wellness platforms, AI health assistants, and wearable health ecosystems as consumers seek more personalized healthcare experiences.

Google also reiterated that Fitbit users’ health and wellness data will not be used for Google Ads, maintaining a privacy commitment the company has previously emphasized.

The announcement positions Google more aggressively within the digital healthcare and wellness space, where artificial intelligence is expected to play a larger role in personalized health management, preventive care, and everyday wellness tracking.
