NYAI, an Indian AI-native legal infrastructure startup, has raised $1.5 million (around Rs 13 crore) in a seed funding round backed by a consortium of Indian family offices and strategic angel investors. The company plans to use the capital to strengthen its legal intelligence platform, expand its compliance offerings and accelerate enterprise adoption.
The startup said the funding will be used to expand its proprietary database of Indian laws, regulations and judicial material while improving the AI layer that powers its platform. It also plans to develop a broader compliance management system that enables organisations to monitor regulatory obligations through a unified dashboard.
Focus on enterprise legal and compliance needs
NYAI is also looking to expand its presence among enterprises, listed companies and law firms by building tools designed for compliance, legal research and governance. The platform is designed to integrate with existing enterprise AI models rather than requiring organisations to switch to a proprietary large language model.
According to the company, the approach allows enterprises to deploy the platform within their existing infrastructure while keeping sensitive legal data inside their own environments. It also aims to provide responses backed by verifiable legal references and citations.
Legal tech market sees growing demand
The funding comes as businesses face increasing regulatory requirements and growing demand for technology that simplifies legal and compliance processes. The company believes Indian enterprises have significant exposure to regulatory risks because of the country’s complex legal framework spanning central, state and sector-specific regulations.
Founded in March 2025, NYAI was launched by legal professional Adv. Dr. Chinmay Bhosale and technology entrepreneur Vikrant Labde. The startup is positioning itself as an AI infrastructure provider for legal and compliance teams as organisations increasingly adopt AI tools for enterprise workflows.
Chinmay Bhosale, Co-founder, NYAI, said, “International legal AI platforms are engineered for Western legal systems, where the binding constraint is the cost of counsel. In a jurisdiction as layered as ours, a tool is not an answer. Law firms and in-house legal teams need infrastructure they can own, and workflows shaped to their own practice rather than to a vendor’s template. That is what NYAI is building, with our proprietary intelligence layer embedded within it.”
Vikrant Labde, Co-founder, NYAI, said, “Compliance cannot be retrofitted as a feature; it has to be native to the architecture. We are building the substrate: corpus, retrieval, citation, and audit trail upon which enterprises and law firms construct their own workflows. This capital allows us to industrialise that stack and to meet the deployment and security standards that regulated institutions rightly demand.”
