Former India captain Rohit Sharma has joined Bengaluru-based gaming studio LightFury Games as an investor, adding another prominent cricketer to the company’s investor group ahead of the launch of its flagship title, eCricket.

Sharma’s association extends beyond the investment. He will also appear in eCricket as an officially licensed playable player, linking his involvement with both the business and gaming sides of the upcoming title.

LightFury Games is preparing to roll out a phased closed beta of eCricket in September 2026. The company said more than 300,000 users have already signed up ahead of the testing phase.

The beta will give an initial group of players access to the game, with their feedback expected to contribute to further development before the wider launch later this year. The studio has also released a second official teaser for the game, which crossed one million views over the weekend, according to LightFury.

With his investment, Rohit becomes the eighth prominent Indian cricketer to back LightFury Games.

He joins MS Dhoni, Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Shreyas Iyer, Ravindra Jadeja, Tilak Varma and Sai Sudharsan, who participated as strategic investors in the company’s $11 million pre-Series A round announced in April 2026. The size and terms of Rohit Sharma’s individual investment have not been disclosed.

LightFury had raised $8.5 million in seed funding in 2024 before raising the $11 million pre-Series A round this year. The April round was led by Blume Ventures, V3 Ventures, MIXI and Times Internet, alongside strategic investments from the cricketers.

Founded in 2024 by Karan Shroff, Anurag Banerjee and Tina Balachandran, LightFury Games is focused on developing AAA gaming experiences from India. The studio currently has more than 120 developers and industry professionals, according to the company.
