Content creator and daily vlogger Sourav Joshi organised a trip to Delhi for a group of underprivileged children, giving them their first experience of air travel.
India is home to nearly 430 million children, yet millions continue to have limited access to quality education, healthcare, nutrition and other opportunities. For children from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, experiences such as travelling by air, visiting a new city or exploring places beyond their hometown can often remain financially inaccessible.
Against this backdrop, Joshi’s initiative gave the participating children an opportunity to board an aircraft for the first time and spend a day in Delhi. Several of the children said they had previously only seen airplanes from the ground or in cartoons.
Having grown up in a family that faced financial difficulties, he built his career through daily vlogging, documenting his everyday life, family and travel.
Joshi has previously spoken about the financial constraints his family experienced during his early years. The Delhi trip was aimed at giving children access to an experience that may otherwise have remained beyond their reach.
Accompanied by Joshi and his wife Avantika, the children travelled to Delhi and spent the day exploring the city. Their itinerary included a visit to a gaming arcade and a meal together before the group returned to Haldwani by bus.
The initiative also highlights the broader disparity in access to recreational and travel experiences among children from different economic backgrounds. While air travel and visits to new cities may be relatively accessible to some families, the costs associated with such experiences can make them difficult to access for lower income households.
Rather than providing material assistance, the initiative focused on giving the children an opportunity to experience something outside their everyday environment, with their first flight forming the central part of the trip.
