Google Cloud Completes Acquisition Of Wiz To Strengthen Cloud And AI Security Infrastructure

Google has officially acquired Wiz, a cloud and artificial intelligence security company headquartered in New York. Following the transaction, Wiz will become part of the Google Cloud. Despite the integration, Wiz will retain its brand identity and continue its core operations focused on securing customer data across multiple external cloud environments.

The acquisition represents a strategic investment by Google Cloud to strengthen its overall security infrastructure and support organisations in securely developing software across multiple cloud and artificial intelligence platforms. The move comes as businesses and government agencies increasingly shift critical data to the cloud and adopt continuous software development practices, while cyber threats grow more complex as malicious actors use artificial intelligence to carry out attacks with greater speed and sophistication.

As per the company, Wiz provides a security platform that connects directly to major cloud services, enabling organisations to prevent and respond to cybersecurity incidents. The company said this technology will complement the existing infrastructure and artificial intelligence security tools of Google Cloud, including its threat intelligence and security operations systems.

The organisations plan to combine their capabilities to build a unified security platform designed to detect emerging AI driven threats, protect artificial intelligence models from external attacks, and use AI systems to proactively identify potential security breaches.

The integrated platform is intended to provide a consistent set of tools, processes, and policies across major cloud environments, covering the entire lifecycle from initial code development to runtime operations. Google Cloud said that strengthening multi cloud security is expected to support broader adoption of multi cloud strategies among enterprises. The system also intends to support smaller businesses that may lack extensive security resources, enabling them to better defend against complex cyber threats.

In line with its commitment to open systems, Wiz stated that its products will continue to operate across major competing cloud platforms. The company added that these tools will also remain available through partner security solutions and will continue to be distributed via the Google Cloud Marketplace to ensure broad accessibility.

Sundar Pichai, CEO, Google, said, “Keeping people safe online has always been part of Google’s mission. This job is increasingly important today, as more companies and governments move their work to the cloud and broadly use generative AI. By bringing Wiz and Google Cloud together, we’re making it easier for organizations to innovate with confidence.”

Thomas Kurian, CEO, Google Cloud, said, “We want to make security a catalyst for innovation, not a barrier. With this acquisition, we will deliver a unified security platform that simplifies the complex task of protecting multicloud environments in the AI era, making a strong security posture accessible to more companies and governments.”

Assaf Rappaport, Co-Founder & CEO, Wiz, said, “Joining Google Cloud allows us to scale our mission of protecting customers wherever they operate at machine speed. We remain committed to our open approach, ensuring Wiz continues to support all major cloud and code environments. With Google’s AI leadership and resources, coupled with Wiz’s deep context and knowledge of cloud and code environments, we are in a stronger position to help our partners and customers prevent breaches before they happen.”
