Apple has acquired the creative studio MotionVFX. The company explains that the goal is to integrate premium effects previously sold as third-party add-ons directly into its native applications without increasing the subscription cost for users.

The acquisition will integrate advanced motion graphics, 3D tools, and premium video editing plugins into Final Cut Pro and Apple Creator Studio. The company said the move aims to enhance professional video editing on Mac and iPad while keeping subscription pricing unchanged.

According to the brand, the 70 staff members joining Apple will bring expertise in several industry-standard tools, including the cinematic colour grading plugin mFilmLook, 3D engine mO2, and various template design extensions. This move will likely result in advanced features like 3D titles and complex tracking becoming native parts of the Final Cut Pro experience.

As per Apple, it intends to use MotionVFX’s expertise to improve Final Cut Pro on the iPad Pro. The brand states that this will help close the gap between tablet-based editing and desktop performance by adding richer animation and motion graphics capabilities to the mobile app.

While MotionVFX currently produces tools for other platforms like DaVinci Resolve and Adobe Premiere Pro, industry observers expect Apple to prioritise its own software moving forward. The company has not yet announced when these tools will become exclusive to the Mac and iPad ecosystems. For the time being, the MotionVFX marketplace remains open, and existing customers can continue to use their purchased plugins as usual.

Speaking on the acquisition, MotionVFX said, “We are extremely excited to share that MotionVFX is joining the Apple team to continue to empower creators and editors to do their best work. For over 15 years, we’ve been on a mission to create world-class, visually inspiring content and effects for video editors. From the very beginning, we’ve been all about quality, ease of use, and great design. These are also the values that we admire most in Apple’s products, and we’re thrilled to be able to embrace them together.”

“We’d like to take this opportunity to thank all our amazing customers and supporters who have been with us through all these years. You inspired us, you challenged us, and you helped our products become what they are today. We are incredibly grateful to be part of this amazing community and excited to continue our work to serve you. This is the beginning of something truly wonderful.” the company further added.
