Meesho Uses AI To Generate More Than 70% of Its Code, Says CEO Vidit Aatrey

Meesho is increasingly integrating artificial intelligence into its software development processes, with CEO Vidit Aatrey stating that more than 70% of the company’s code is now generated using AI tools. The development reflects how technology companies are increasingly using generative AI across core engineering and software development functions.

The company’s increasing use of AI generated code reflects a broader trend across the technology industry, where engineering teams are adopting AI copilots and code generation tools for tasks including debugging, testing, documentation and infrastructure management.

Founded in 2015, Meesho operates in India’s ecommerce and social commerce market, serving users across smaller cities and value focused consumer segments. The platform has been investing in technology infrastructure, logistics and AI-based systems as competition intensifies across ecommerce, quick commerce and digital retail.

The rise of AI generated coding has also sparked wider industry discussions around developer productivity, workforce structures and the evolving role of software engineers. While companies are increasingly automating parts of coding, human oversight and system level decision making continue to remain critical for large scale software operations.

The announcement also signals how Indian startups are moving faster in adopting generative AI tools internally, particularly in areas such as product development, customer support, recommendation systems and engineering automation.

Vidit Aatrey, Co-Founder and CEO, Meesho, said, “We have made a deliberate bet on AI as the operating system for how we build. Over 70% of our code is now AI-generated, and we are releasing products faster and with greater reliability than at any point in our history. What once took weeks now takes days.”

Dhiresh Bansal, Chief Financial Officer, Meesho, said, “We are not looking at it right now as a cost lever. Earlier, a big constraint used to be how much engineering bandwidth we had to execute certain ideas. Now we can do that with a lot more code getting generated by AI.”
