Uber has announced plans to establish its first data centre in India in partnership with Adani Group, marking a major expansion of the ride-hailing company’s technology and infrastructure presence in one of its fastest-growing global markets.

The announcement was made by Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi following a meeting with Gautam Adani in Ahmedabad. According to Khosrowshahi, the facility is expected to become operational later this year and will support Uber’s efforts to test and deploy technology solutions at scale from India for global operations.

While financial details of the project have not been disclosed, the move is being viewed as a significant step in Uber’s long-term India strategy, particularly amid growing emphasis on data localisation, AI infrastructure, and digital sovereignty within the country.

The partnership also strengthens Adani Group’s growing ambitions in India’s digital infrastructure and data centre ecosystem. Through initiatives such as AdaniConneX, its data centre joint venture with EdgeConneX, the conglomerate has been aggressively expanding its presence in AI-ready data centres and cloud infrastructure projects across the country.

The development also signals Uber’s intent to deepen its operational and technology footprint in India beyond ride-hailing services. Over the years, the company has expanded its engineering, product, and support operations in the country, positioning India as an important centre for innovation and technology development.

The proposed facility is expected to support technology testing, deployment, and scaling capabilities for Uber’s global operations while contributing to India’s growing role in the worldwide AI and data infrastructure landscape.
