Former India cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has invested in residential rooftop solar company SolarSquare through his family office, Midas Deals, as part of the startup’s recently announced $53 million Series C funding round. Alongside the investment, Dhoni has also joined the company as its brand ambassador, signalling his endorsement of India’s growing residential clean energy sector.

The fresh capital will support SolarSquare’s expansion into 30 to 40 new cities, while strengthening its technology platform, financing capabilities and customer service infrastructure. The company aims to accelerate the adoption of rooftop solar systems among Indian households as electricity costs continue to rise and demand for sustainable energy solutions grows.

Founded in 2015 by Shreya Mishra, Nikhil Nahar, and Neeraj Jain, SolarSquare provides end-to-end rooftop solar solutions, including consultation, installation, financing, monitoring and after-sales service. The company says it has installed residential rooftop solar systems in more than 50,000 homes across 29 cities.

The investment comes at a time when India’s residential rooftop solar market is witnessing strong momentum, driven by government incentives, increasing awareness around renewable energy and consumers looking to reduce long-term electricity expenses. By bringing on one of India’s most recognisable sporting icons as both an investor and brand ambassador, SolarSquare is looking to strengthen consumer confidence while expanding its presence in the country’s fast-growing clean energy market.
