Xiaomi is deepening its play in India’s consumer electronics market with the launch of Mijia, its global smart home and lifestyle brand, marking a strategic expansion beyond smartphones and personal gadgets. The move signals the company’s intent to strengthen its presence in the fast growing home appliances segment, where established players such as Samsung and LG currently dominate.

According to Moneycontrol, the company plans to introduce a wider range of connected home products under the Mijia brand, including smart appliances and lifestyle devices. Xiaomi said India remains one of its priority markets for building a connected ecosystem, with home appliances expected to play a larger role in its next phase of growth.

Unlike its smartphone-focused portfolio, Mijia will serve as a dedicated brand for home and smart living products. The branding aligns India with Xiaomi’s global strategy, where Mijia has long been positioned as the company’s ecosystem brand for connected household devices.

Xiaomi Bets on India’s Connected Home Opportunity

The expansion reflects Xiaomi’s broader effort to diversify its business as smartphone growth moderates. India’s rising demand for smart homes and premium appliances presents an opportunity for brands capable of offering connected products across multiple price segments.

According to Xiaomi India Chief Operating Officer Muralikrishnan B, the immediate focus is on expanding the company’s connected home ecosystem rather than bringing its electric vehicle business to the country. While Xiaomi’s EV ambitions remain centred on China and future European markets, India will be a key market for its smart home strategy.

The entry of Mijia is expected to intensify competition in categories such as air conditioners, robot vacuum cleaners, smart kitchen appliances, air purifiers and other connected devices. As Xiaomi expands its ecosystem beyond smartphones, it will compete more directly with consumer electronics giants that already have a strong foothold in India’s appliance market.
