People familiar with the matter told Moneycontrol, the layoffs have affected teams across technology, engineering, operations, payments and finance, with employees at PayPal offices in Chennai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad impacted. Affected employees were informed through calls and emails on August 31, with system access revoked immediately after the termination process.
PayPal India Layoffs Form Part Of Larger Global Workforce Reduction
The India job cuts come after PayPal announced plans to reduce its global workforce by around 20% over the next two to three years. The restructuring is intended to generate at least $1.5 billion in gross run rate savings during the period, with the company having around 23,800 employees globally at the end of 2025.
The workforce reduction is being implemented across regions, with reports indicating that the process began in the Asia Pacific region before extending to other markets. Around 164 employees were also reportedly laid off in Ireland, representing about 12% of PayPal’s workforce there.
