Monica Gonzalez Castro, an Operations Business Partner at Canva, shared an emotional LinkedIn post reflecting on her four-year stint at the design platform. Her departure comes as the company undertakes a major restructuring affecting around 22% of its workforce.
Canva’s latest workforce restructuring has brought an unexpected end to the four-year journey of Monica Gonzalez Castro, an Operations Business Partner at the design platform. Castro shared an emotional note on LinkedIn, reflecting on her time at the company, the professional and personal experiences she gained, and the colleagues who shaped her journey.
In her post, Castro described her four years at Canva as a deeply rewarding experience that contributed to her growth both professionally and personally. While expressing sadness over the unexpected end of her association with the company, she also acknowledged the people she had worked with and the relationships built during her tenure. She is now looking forward to exploring new professional opportunities.
Her departure comes amid one of the biggest workforce restructuring exercises in Canva’s history. The Australian design software company has announced changes affecting 1,271 employees, representing approximately 22% of its global workforce. The announcement includes job cuts, changes to existing roles and relocation requirements for some employees.
The development marks a significant shift for the company, which has been expanding its global footprint and product capabilities over the past decade.
Canva co-founder and CEO Melanie Perkins attributed the restructuring to a slowdown in the company’s growth, which she said had happened for the first time in a decade. In an internal communication subsequently published on the company’s newsroom, Perkins described the decision as one of the most difficult in Canva’s 13-year history.
The company plans to bring its Product, Growth and Platform teams together under a single product organisation. The restructuring will also involve reducing management layers, consolidating overlapping responsibilities and moving towards broader roles with greater ownership.
