Wipro Hires 7,500 Freshers in FY26 Amid Ongoing Layoffs Across Industries

Wipro has continued to hire freshers at a time when several companies are undertaking layoffs amid demand uncertainty and the growing impact of artificial intelligence on workforce structures.

The company added 7,500 freshers during FY26, including around 3,000 in the fourth quarter, maintaining campus hiring even as parts of the sector reduced headcount. This positions Wipro among the companies that have continued entry level hiring despite broader workforce rationalisation across the industry.

The hiring comes as the IT services sector is experiencing a shift driven by cautious client spending and increasing adoption of AI led delivery models. These changes have led many firms to reassess hiring plans and reduce workforce size in certain areas.

While outlining its hiring approach for the upcoming financial year FY27, Wipro indicated that it is not setting a fixed fresher hiring plan amid ongoing demand uncertainty in the sector.

While addressing the press conference after declaring Q4 FY26 results, Chief Human Resource Officer Saurabh Govil, said, “We don’t have any target for fresher hiring for next fiscal. It’s completely on demand, a very volatile environment. The company will take a call sometime in the future, as and when demand picks up.”
